More Information

  • Contraindications: Antiembolism stockings are not recommended for patients with the following conditions:
    - Severe arteriosclerosis or other severe ischemic vascular disorders, including absence of pedal pulses
    - Local skin disorders, such as open ulcerations, infections or fresh surgical wounds
    - Massive peripheral edema associated with pulmonary edema
    - Severely deformed extremity
  • How to fit and apply the stockings:
    - Measure calf circumference to determine size
    - Measure distance from bend of knee to bottom of heel to determine length
  • To apply stockings:
    - Gather length of stocking down to heel pocket
    - Stretch stocking open and fit over foot and heel
    - Depending on length, draw stocking evenly over ankle or calf to full length. Do not turn down top of stocking
    - Smooth out excess material with palms of hands
    - Eliminate any wrinkles in foot area by grasping toe section and pulling forward
    - A top view port allows inspection of toes without removing the stocking
