Optec Cervical Thoracic Orthosis (CTO) provides external immobilization in the planes of flexion, extension, rotation and lateral bending of all cervical levels. Its anatomically designed polyethylene components give optimum control and comfort. The occipital or cranial region is encapsulated for maximum control. It has slotted bars that adjust to desired mandible, occipital and cranial heights.

More On Optec Cervical Thoracic Orthosis

Fitting Instructions:


  • Using an allen key, loosen adjustment screws on the anterior mandibular support and the posterior occipital support to enable donning of the thoracic and dorsum panel pieces.
  • Connect straps of one side of the panel section and then don as if putting on a back-pack, secure open side straps and adjust position of jacket to be centered on chest and back. Tighten to snug both sides equally.
  • Position the posterior occipital support lightly against the posterior of skull, and tighten the adjusting screws.
  • Position the anterior mandibular support up under the chin, also lightly touching. And ensure the head is positioned as desired and contact against the posterior occipital support is occurring, tighten the adjustment screws and check t visually.
  • Attach head band snug to maintain head position and stabilization.
     

Care and General Guidelines:



  • Patients are advised to purchase snug-fitting (a size smaller than the usual) undershirts to wear under the orthosis.
  • Hand wash at 860 F with mild soap.
  • When drying, do not expose to direct heat (heater or sunlight) air dry.
  • Do not expose to temperatures greater than 160oF.
  • Periodically clean the hook part of the strap (the rough section) with a toothbrush.
  • Never iron or dry clean.
  • If not rinsed well after washing, residual soap may cause skin irritation and product deterioration.
  • Do not for any reason loosen the screws and re-adjust the brace.
  • If you find that you are experiencing discomfort, see your orthotist.
  • Your practitioner knows your medical status and is using the spinal brace as one part of your total care. 
  • It is important to follow his or her instructions exactly, even if they differ from some of the preceding guidelines.
