1. How do you take a footrest off a wheelchair?

To take the footrest off the Cruiser III, release the lock by pushing on the front rigging lever. Swing-away footrest /leg rest out and sideways. Lift to remove.

2. How do you open a Drive wheelchair?

To open or unfold the Cruiser Wheelchair.

• Place the wheelchair on an even solid surface.
• Lock the brakes properly. The wheelchair might roll away as one tries to open it up if the brakes are not locked. Usually, there are small levers in front of each rear wheel that engage to lock the wheels.
• Proper adjustment of wheel lock is at least 1/8” when locked.
• Grab the seat of the drive wheelchair with one hand in the front and one in the back.
• Slowly push the seat down in the middle of the chair. The sides and wheels of the wheelchair should slide away from one another.
• Push all the way down till the seat opens fully.
• The Cruiser III wheelchair is now ready to use. Make sure the brakes are locked before the user sits in the wheelchair.

3. How do you close the Drive Cruiser III?

To close or fold the Drive Medical Wheelchair -

• Check if the brakes are applied to the wheelchair.
• Stand in front of the wheelchair. Grab the seat with one hand in the front and one in the back.
• Gradually lift the seat up. The chair should fold in half when you do so, and the wheels should move closer together.
• Raise the seat in the middle, and the wheelchair should fold up adequately and be ready to transport or store.

4. How often should I check the casters?

Drive Cruiser III casters should be checked periodically and lubricated occasionally. Lubricate by removing fork and greasing caster stem bearings. Lubricate wheel bearings by removing the wheel from the fork. Reassemble fork and wheel by tightening nuts until no play remains, but wheels roll freely. If the nut is too loose, the caster will shimmy. If too tight, the chair will be hard to steer.

5. How do I adjust the wheel locks?

Adjustments to locks are made by loosening or tightening the nut on the carriage bolt. Embed lock shoe at least 1/8” by sliding clamp toward rear wheel while the handle is engaged in the locked position. Tighten the nut and bolt to secure in place—test for correct locking action before actual use.
