Features of Ostomy Protective Powder

• Used to dust onto the skin before placing the ostomy appliance onto the body
• Protects weepy and denuded skin around the stoma
• Also helps to extend the life of the skin barrier/wafer
• Absorbs moisture and becomes a gel which eventually crusts over
• It is used when peristomal skin is raw and weepy
• Provide protection to the skin from stomal discharge
• Help keep skin dry and prevent skin irritation
• Used to create a crusting technique when peristomal skin is severely damaged and weeping
• Ingredients are sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, pectin, and gelatin
• The stomahesive powder will turn to a gel and slowly dry
• Note: it is not an adhesive
