  • Advantages:
    - Cover is made of durable terrycloth that absorbs moisture and prevents skin maceration
    - Cover is lined with soft foam that covers the whole frame of the splint so that any edges that touch the patient are padded to prevent pressure areas on patients body
    - Straps are foam lined for comfort and to prevent pressure areas
    - Straps closes with velcro - but no velcro touches the patient;s skin
    - Can be graduated up to increase finger and wrist extension
  • Contra-Indications:
    - Patient has circulatory problems
    - Pressure areas or skin irritations appear
    - Patient has persistent pain in the wrist, fingers and hand
    - Patient has increased edema, redness or blisters
  • Caution:
    Should be checked every 15 minutes initially, then increase intervals to every 2 hours until removed, to see if there are any problems such as skin abrasions, redness, blisters or increased edema
