Allevyn Gentle Border Sacrum Foam Dressing is a silicone gel adhesive hydrocellular foam dressing incorporating unique triple-action technology. It is comprised of a highly breathable polyurethane top film, a hydrocellular foam layer and a perforated wound contract layer coated with a silicone gel adhesive. This allevyn foam dressing has a unique design with three slits in the film at the bottom of the dressing to aid placement of the dressing in the cleft and aid dressing conformability in this awkward area of the body.

How to Use Allevyn Sacrum Foam Dressing?

  • Cleanse the wound in accordance with normal procedures.
  • Select the appropriate dressing size.
  • Prepare and clean the skin surrounding the wound area by removing excess moisture. Any excess hair should be clipped to ensure close approximation to the wound.
  • Start to remove the protector material from the dressing and anchor the adhesive side of the dressing to the skin.
  • When positioning Allevyn Gentle Border Sacrum, place the narrow end of the dressing a minimum of 2cm above the anal sphincter.
  • Smooth the dressing over the wound removing the remaining protector material and ensure that the dressing is adhered all around the wound.
  • Allevyn Gentle Border Sacrum can be cut and an aseptic technique should be used with cutting the dressing. Ensure any exposed foam areas are covered with an appropriate film dressing taking care not to cover the entire dressing.

Allevyn dressing Application

  • Cleanse the wound in accordance with normal procedures.
  • Select appropriate dressing size. Prepare and clean the skin surrounding the wound area and remove excess moisture.
  • Any excess hair should be clipped to ensure close approximation to the wound
  • Remove one of the protector films and anchor the adhesive side of the dressing to the skin.
  • Remove the remaining protector film and smooth the dressing over the remainder of the wound without stretching, ensuring there are no creases.
  • The pad area of the dressing must be adhered across the entire surface of the wound.
  • The dressing can be lifted and repositioned without losing its adherent properties.
  • Allevyn Gentle Border can be cut to dress wounds on the heel, elbows and other awkward areas.
  • Always use a clean technique when cutting the dressing.
  • If the dressing has been cut ensure any exposed foam areas are covered with an appropriate film dressing taking care not to cover the entire dressing.

Frequency of changing Allevyn Dressing

  • During the early stages of wound management Allevyn Gentle Border should be inspected according to local clinical protocol.
  • Where the product is used on infected wounds the infection should be inspected and treated as per local clinical protocol.
  • Allevyn Dressing can be left in place for up to 7 days, except the sacral area where dressings can be left in place for up to 5 days, depending on the condition of the wound and the surrounding skin or until exudate is visible and approaches to within 0.5cm of the edge of the dressing pad, whichever is sooner.
  • The decision of when to change should be dependent upon clinical assessment and local protocols should also be taken into consideration.

When to remove Allevyn Hydrocellular Foam Dressing?

  • To remove ALLEVYN Gentle Border, lift one corner of the dressing and slowly peel back until completely removed from the wound.

Precautions While Using Allevyn Dressing

  • Do not use ALLEVYN Gentle Border with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions (e.g. EUSOL) or hydrogen peroxide, as these can break down the absorbent polyurethane component of the dressing.
  • If reddening or sensitization occurs discontinue use.
  • Single use product.
  • Allevyn Gentle Border Heel must not be used for pressure relief independently of pressure relieving devices.
